Hing Benefits For Male

Hing
Can different species of Asafoetida plant (Ferula) cure sexual problems of women and men once and for all? In this article, I’m going to answer exactly that question, so as always, stick with Phaidyme until the end of this article.

Note: the phrase “Asafoetida plant” is not correct; because “Asafoetida (Hing)” is the name of the Oleo-gum resin that is extracted from the production plant.

But in this article, to make the content easier to read, instead of writing the phrase “Asafoetida (Hing) producing plant”, we have written “Asafoetida (Hing) plant”, so wherever you see the phrase “Asafoetida (Hing) plant” or “Asafoetida (Hing) is a plant that…”, it means the plant from which Asafoetida (Hing) resin is extracted.

Article: Asafoetida Benefits

The analysis and review of the research that I mention in this article can give ideas to experts and pharmaceutical companies around the world about the treatment of sexual problems.

Product: Asafoetida Wholesaler

It is interesting to know that based on international research (Milad Iranshahy & Mehrdad Iranshahi – 2011) on the use of Hing in the traditional medicine of countries, we came across interesting cases.

For example, people of Nepal regularly use Hing powder (Asafoetida Powder) as a spice in their daily diet and believe that Hing (Heeng) has the following properties:

  • Sexuality enhancer
  • Sedative
  • Diuretic

Note: The image below is an example of a Hing powder product in the market of Nepal.

Also, in the traditional medicine of countries such as America and Brazil, Hing has been introduced as a sex enhancer (Seyyed Majid Bagheri & his colleagues – 2015).

Consequences of neglecting sexual problems

Let me first talk a little about the importance of treating sexual problems.

Sexual relations are the most important part of marital relations, the quality of which affects not only the health of the individual and the family but also the health of society.

Solving sexual problems is one of the important factors in strengthening the family.

The constant existence of sexual problems can cause obvious or hidden anger and hatred in couples.

Sexual dysfunction is a great limitation in a person’s quality of life and may have harmful effects on all aspects of the affected person’s life.

The most common sexual disorders in men include the following:

  • Decreased libido
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Orgasm and ejaculation disorders

Epidemiological studies have shown that erectile dysfunction in men around the world is about 20-22%, which shows that; Sexual problems affect public health much more than you think.

Among the most important consequences of having sexual problems, the following can be mentioned:

  • Extreme anger
  • Occurrence of lower abdominal pain
  • Backache
  • Inability to concentrate mentally to do daily tasks
  • Infertility

According to a study (2004):

  • 20 to 30% of men
  • 40 to 45% of women

They have problems in at least one stage of their sexual cycle.

According to a study (2014):

Sexual disorders are more common among women (43%) than men (31%).

The researchers in this study concluded that sexual disorders are a worldwide health problem.

On the one hand, the need to preserve the family foundation and on the other hand, the exorbitant costs that people pay every year for the treatment of sexual problems and its effects on married life, caused experts to seek help from the Asafoetida (Hing) plant.

You might ask yourself why the experts used the Hing (Asafoetida) plant.

The reason is that they got to know the uses of the Asafoetida plant and its resin by studying traditional medicine and pharmacopeia of different countries, especially Iran the cradle of traditional medicine in the world.

What do you know about Hing?

In this section, you will get to know the Asafoetida plant briefly.

  • An important species of Ferula
  • From the Apiaceae family
  • It has medicinal, industrial, edible, and fodder importance

It is said that Ferula means mace in Greek, which is derived from the flowering stem of the Asafoetida plant, which resembles a mace.

The word Foetida also means bad smell, which is derived from the sulfur compounds and bad smell of the plant.

The Asafoetida plant is herbaceous and perennial and has a strong, fleshy, thick, and fibrous stem.

The straight and fibrous root of this plant makes and stores sap, which is extracted by cutting.

The diameter of the root of the plant varies according to the age of the plant and can vary from 7 to 10 cm and sinks to a depth of 30 to 40 cm from the soil.

In the first 3 to 5 years, the Asafoetida plant only has several leaves on the ground, which gradually form among its leaves that has a hairy and usually dusty appearance; a straight, cylindrical, and fleshy stem emerges.

Hing (Heeng) and its effect on libido

Now we come to the main part of the article

First study (2009)

Research location: Antaki Center for Herbal Medicine

The researchers conducted a study to investigate the effect of Ferula assa-foetida L. extract on enhancing fertility, sexual desire, and erectile function in men.

In this study, the researchers prepared tablets called “Masculine” tablets from the ethanolic extract of the seeds and 50% water-ethanolic extract of the root and investigated the effects of these tablets in terms of safety and efficiency in increasing men’s libido.

In this study, two groups of healthy young men were selected from infertility treatment clinics.

First group:

  • Number: 60 people
  • Type of disorder: Azoospermia

What is Azoospermia?

In this disorder, the man’s seminal fluid lacks sperm, or in other words, the number of male sperm in this condition is zero.
This type of disorder is medically incurable. Of course, a way to cure it may be found in the future.

The second group:

  • Number: 25 people
  • Type of disorder: erection and impotence

These two groups were given one Masculine pill a day for three months, and no side effects were reported.

The results of this study showed:

The quantitative and qualitative improvement of sperm count after two months of treatment is as follows:

  • In the first group: 17%
  • In the second group: 60%

In addition, 60% of the subjects in the second group reported significant positive effects, both in their libido and erectile function.

Based on the results; Masculine pills obtained from the ethanolic extract of the seed and root of the Asafoetida plant are safe sexual enhancers that can increase sexual performance in humans (p<0.05).

Note: In this study (2009), based on experimental studies on mice, the average lethal dose (LD) of Masculine is five grams per kilogram (g/kg).

The second study (2015)

Research location: Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences Campus

The researchers conducted a study to evaluate the effect of the “Ferula assa-foetida oleo gum resin” extract on sperm parameters and testicular histopathology in male Wistar rats.

The results of this study showed:

Ferula assa-foetida extract in low doses can improve sperm parameters such as the following and keep the normal structure of the testicular tissue and its cells, although in high doses it may hurt the testicular tissue; but sperm production (Spermatogenesis) did not decrease.

  • Count
  • Viability
  • Testosterone levels

Therefore, Hing extract in low doses can show a beneficial effect on testicles and spermatogenesis.

Histological studies showed that the spermatogenesis process and the number of Leydig cells increase with increasing the dose of Hing (Asafoetida) extract.

The number of Epididymal sperm was significantly increased in all doses (P<0.05).

Morphology and viability of sperm were significantly improved in mice treated with Hing (Heeng) extract, except at doses of 25 and 50 mg/kg.

Also, the motility of sperms in the doses of 25 and 50 mg/kg decreased significantly compared to the control group.

In the histological findings in the 25 mg/kg extract group, an increase in germ cells and an increase in the spermatogenesis process were observed.

Also, the height of the Epithelial of the spermatogenesis tube increased and the interstitial space of the tubes decreased, which had fewer complications than other doses.

The third study (2012)

Research location: Ferdowsi University of Mashhad

The researchers conducted a study to investigate the effect of Ferula assa-foetida extract on blood parameters and Histopathology of testes in male Wistar rats.

Note: Pictures A and B are respectively related to the left testis of rats that received doses of 75 and 150 mg/kg of Hing extract.

  • Picture A: Destruction of testicular tissue and adhesions caused by infection between the testicular tissue and the surrounding layers
  • Picture B: Injury and protrusion of the testicular tissue

The results of this study showed:

The diameter of the seminiferous tubules increases with Hing extract.

The thickness of the cell layers of the seminiferous wall decreased under the influence of Hing extract.

The histological results showed an increasing trend in the diameter of the lumen.

The increase in the diameter of the lumen as well as the decrease in the thickness of the cell layers of the seminiferous wall is probably due to the toxic effects of Hing extract and damage to the seminiferous tissue.

The results of the analysis of the number of Primary spermatocytes showed a decreasing trend about increasing the dose of Asafoetida extract.

As the concentration of Asafoetida extract increased, the size and number of Sertoli cells and Leydig cells had a decreasing trend.

Considering the importance of Sertoli cells in the division and differentiation of seminiferous cells, reducing their number prevents the normal development process of male sex cells.

The level of blood testosterone showed a decreasing trend under the influence of increasing the concentration of Hing extract.

According to this study, the presence of estrogenic compounds such as Coumarins in Heeng (Asafoetida) extract causes the following:

  • Disruption of the Spermatogenesis process
  • Reducing the density of seminiferous tissue cells
  • An increase in the diameter of the lumens

The results of this research showed that doses higher than 150 mg of Hing extract destroy spermatogenesis tissue.

The fourth study (2005)

Research location: University of Modena and Reggio Emilia

The researchers conducted a study to investigate the effect of high-dose and low-dose administration of extract Ferula hermonis Boiss. on sexual acceptance and mating of female rats.

In this study, researchers removed the ovaries of female mice so that the following hormones were not naturally produced in the mice’s bodies:

  • Estradiol benzoate
  • Progesterone

When the above hormones are not secreted in the body of the female mouse, the mouse does not have any sexual behavior and practically does not participate in the mating process.

Then these two hormones were artificially injected into female mice to compare the sexual behavior of mice under the influence of these two hormones with the sexual behavior of mice under the influence of F. hermonis extract in two high and low doses on sexual acceptance and mating behavior of Female mice.

  • High-dose: 30 and 60 mg/kg
  • Low-dose: 1 and 10 mg/kg daily for 10 consecutive days

The results of this study showed:

High or repeated doses of F. hermonis extract specifically suppress sexual receptivity and mating behavior in females. This effect can be the result of an anti-estrogenic effect of F. hermonis extract against primary hormones (Estradiol benzoate and Progesterone).

It is interesting to know that in some countries, herbal products containing Ferula hermonis extract are sold in the food supplement market with the claim of increasing sexual performance.

Ferula hermonis extract is also promoted as a natural remedy for women suffering from menopause.

The fifth study (2001)

Research location: AraGen Biotechnology Co

Researchers conducted a study to investigate the effectiveness and toxicity of Ferula harmonis “zallouh” on increasing erectile function in rats.

In this study, the oil extracted from the seeds of the Ferula harmonis plant was tested to investigate its effects on increasing erectile function and its toxicity in male rats.

Note: In some countries of the Middle East, the indigenous peoples also call the plant Ferula harmonis, zallouh, and use it as an aphrodisiac; because it is known to enhance male sexual behavior. However, it has no scientific confirmation.

The results of this study showed:

Ferula harmonis crude seed oil can enhance erectile function. But if it is used for a long time, it has toxic effects.

Treating infertility with Hing

Until this part of the article, I only discussed the effect of Asafoetida on libido. But in this section, I would like to draw your attention to an experiment that investigated the effect of Heeng on the treatment of infertility.

The sixth study (2010)

Research location: ARAB AMERICAN UNIVERSITY

The researchers produced pills called “Feminine” from the dry and concentrated extract of the roots of Ferula asafoetida and the buds of Capparis spinosa.

Sixty young, married, and healthy women for six months while taking one Feminine pill daily; they were examined in two different groups.

  • The first group (32 people): They were studied because of problems with sexual activity.
  • The second group (28 people): They were studied because of infertility that did not require further medical evaluations or treatment.

The Feminine pill was well tolerated by members of both groups and no side effects were reported.

From the first group, twenty-seven women (84%) reported a significant improvement in their sexual problems and libido, and the five people remaining reported no significant change.

In the second group, five women (18%) became pregnant during 3.5 months of taking Feminine pills, and the twenty-one people remaining (75%) reported a secondary effect; that is, their libido improved significantly within a month after taking the pill (Feminine).

The results of this study showed:

The feminine pill is a safe sex tonic that enhances female sexual performance instead of female fertility.

By reading this article, you realized that the different species of Asafoetida plant and its natural products can be effective in the treatment of infertility, and the lower the prescribed dose of this plant and the shorter the duration of its administration; it has more effects on sperm parameters and blood testosterone concentration. However, more studies are needed to clarify this issue.

In the few studies conducted on humans, the Asafoetida plant has had a significant effect on sperm parameters and infertility in men and women, and they have also proven the safety of this plant.

Due to the few studies that were done in this field, more studies are needed regarding the effect of this plant on the sexual problems of women and men.

The conducted studies are an effective step in the direction of more knowledge of Asafoetida (Hing) as a medicine with the following advantages:

  • Normal
  • Fewer side effects than chemical drugs that solve sexual problems
  • High potential for success in treating sexual problems
  • Available
  • Low costs

Note: Considering that most of the studies were done in laboratory conditions or on mice and the results were contradictory, Phaidyme experts recommend before prescribing and using this plant in the treatment of sexual problems of men and women, medical considerations should be taken into account.

Medicinal plants and Oleo-gum resin can cause side effects if they are used arbitrarily.

Considering the high importance of sexual problems and infertility in women and men, as well as the sad consequences of each of them, such as depression and the breakdown of couples’ lives, I hope that this article has been able to draw the attention of the medical and pharmaceutical community around the world to the importance of the plant and Asafoetida gum and has given them a wide view in the direction of using this plant and its products to produce medicines to solve sexual and infertility problems.
